Course: PRIDE Cultural Competency

Course Description: PRIDE is Parents/Professionals, Recognize, Inclusion, Diversity and Equity. Cultural competency is a set of consistent behaviors, knowledge, attitudes, and policies that enable effective work in cross cultural situations. By taking a
“culturay” approach, it allows for change through life long learning, including self examination, refinement of one’s awareness, knowledge, behavior, & attitudes while addressing intersections of power, privilege, and social contexts.
Instructor Information:
In his role as the Community Outreach Manager at Diversity Collective, Edgar is a passionate advocate who embodies the organization's mission of promoting advocacy, visibility, safety, and wellness for the LGBTQ2+ community. He oversees the Diversity SHINES program, which emphasizes astatus-neutral approach to sexual health and wellness.
Drawing from a rich background in arts and marketing, Edgar brings a creative flair to his efforts in driving positive change. He provides LGBTQ2+ Cultural Competence
training sessions that contribute to a more inclusive society. Edgar's dedication, paired with his versatile skill set, propels Diversity Collectives and the LGBTQ2+ community toward a brighter and more harmonious future.
EducationalGoals:
This presentation will engage participants through various activities and hands-on learning to develops skills and to explore selfawareness, privilege, inherited bias,
tolerance, and to identify risk factors and barriers that LGBTQ people face. Step-by-step
techniques for expanding interoceptive awareness with ease and somatic techniques to treat trauma will be demonstrated. This training aims to decrease the high incidence of risk factors, like suicide, in the LGBTQ+ community, with an emphasis on building permanency for LGBTQ+ folks.
MeasurableLearningObjectives
In this training participants will be able to:
1. Recognize and identify risk factors and barriers such as bullying, bias, and prejudice that migh taffect permanency and well-being.
2.Know when to intervene and suppor tLGBTQ folks by assesing the individual’s language and social cues. 3. Feel empowered to decrease LGBTQ+ stigma, bias and stereo types by applying social learning of lived experiences and uplifting others by listing the adequate resources.
